Zeeco, Arbel Energy partner to reduce environmental impact of gas flaring in Nigeria

Zeeco, a global leader in combustion and environmental solutions for the refinery, production, petrochemical, power, pharmaceutical, and biogas industries has launched its services in Nigeria in collaboration with Arbel Energy and Logistics limited to help reduce environmental impact of gas flaring in Nigeria.

Zeeco product lines include ultra-low emission burners, gas and liquid flaring systems, and hazardous and non-hazardous waste incineration. The American company designs, manufactures, markets, and services combustion systems for customers worldwide.

Nigel Palfreeman, MD, Zeeco Europe limited said the introduction of Zeeco in Nigeria is to help the country with environmental products and associate gas recovery, and to tackle some of the environmental issues associated with gas flaring.  “We are looking at associate gas recovery and the economic benefits of doing that across the country, and some of the benefits will be environmental,” he stated.

According to him, the environmental impact of gas flaring in Nigeria is huge, being the 6th highest flaring country in the world. “So, energy lost cannot be recovered and to recover it would be an economic factor that can also contribute to saving the environment. With our expertise and Arbel local knowledge, and the ability to put these packages together within Nigeria; we think that is the way forward,” Palfreeman said.

Umar Ardo, chairman/CEO Arbel Energy and Logistics limited said the partnership with Zeeco will help preserve Nigeria’s ecological environment to advance economic potentials that are inherent in gas.

Ardo posits that as government continue to focus on harnessing the commercial benefits from gas, Zeeco presence in Nigeria will help resolve the economic potentials of gas and the environmental issues associated with gas flaring in Nigeria. “Zeeco is the largest in the world, they have the technology and all Nigeria need is to key in,” said Ardo stating that Zeeco training academy is open to train Nigerians for free on combustion technology.

Adefolaju Amoo, MD, Arbel Energy and Logistics limited said Zeeco virtually got no presence in Africa, hence the need to partner with it based on its installed assets and facilities in the oil and gas operating environment.

According to Ammo, Nigeria is more of a gas country in terms of natural resources. He opined that there has been consequences associated with flaring, resulting in loss of revenue and deforestation. “Those consequences are now beginning to have an impact and as such it’s time to deal with it, which is why the partnership is so strategic to stopping gas flaring in Nigeria.

“Zeeco has a legacy of being pioneers in gas management systems; increased combustion quality and reduced emissions. So, what we are trying to do is help Nigeria gain the benefits of having assets and equipment that has 70/80 per cent efficiencies,” said Amoo stating that it will help Nigeria take the option of having the best possible equipment in its gas regime.
