NET NG has launched the #MyNaijaPain Challenge, a social media campaign aimed at giving young Nigerians a platform to address issues affecting daily life through creative expression. The campaign, which began on April 27, 2025, will run until May 5, 2025, and is open to creators between the ages of 16 and 25.
The initiative invites participants to share original content in the form of rap performances, monologues, and skits. Through these formats, young people are expected to speak on matters such as fuel scarcity, the rising cost of living, insecurity, loan app exploitation, consumer rights, and the ongoing debate around “Japa” and “Japada”.
According to NET NG, the campaign is designed to turn social media into a space for public dialogue while also creating opportunities for emerging talents. By encouraging user-generated content, the organisers hope to draw attention to social and economic realities facing Nigerians, especially younger citizens who often feel the direct impact of these challenges.
Participants are required to create vertical videos suitable for platforms such as TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts. Entries must be uploaded on personal social media pages with the hashtag #MyNaijaPain. Submissions can be made in English, Nigerian Pidgin, or any Nigerian language.
The competition is divided into three creative categories. The “Rap Report” format requires a 60 to 90-second original or remixed rap or afrobeat performance focused on at least one social issue. The “Monologue Challenge” involves a solo acting performance of up to 90 seconds, either original or adapted, addressing current concerns. The “Skits” category allows for comedic or dramatic group or solo performances, also within a 90-second limit.
A prize pool of over ₦1,000,000 has been announced for winners. The overall winner will receive ₦600,000, while the first runner-up will earn ₦400,000 and the second runner-up ₦250,000. Organisers stated that winners will be selected based on engagement figures, including likes, shares, and comments, alongside the relevance and impact of the content.
To qualify, participants must submit original work, ensure clear video and audio quality, and follow the campaign’s technical guidelines. The organisers stressed that the strength of the message will carry more weight than performance style.
In a statement released at the launch, NET NG said, “Every young Nigerian has a story that deserves to be heard. The #MyNaijaPain Challenge is not just a competition, it is a movement. We are giving the streets a microphone and trusting that the truth, told creatively, can move mountains. At NET NG, we believe that authentic voices drive real change, and this campaign is our commitment to amplifying those voices on a national and global stage.”
For many young Nigerians, the challenge offers more than financial reward. It presents a chance to turn lived experiences into stories that can reach audiences across the country and beyond. At a time when many feel unheard, the campaign places their voices at the centre of public conversation.
As entries continue to pour in, the #MyNaijaPain Challenge is shaping up as a platform where creativity meets advocacy, and where social media becomes a stage for truth, reflection, and action.
