Workers’ Day: Anambra pensioners dying without benefits, NLC tells Soludo

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Anambra State chapter has decried the condition of pensioners in the state, stating that many of them are dying without being paid their retirement benefits.

Emeka Nwafor, the state chairman of the NLC, stated this in his address on the occasion of the 2023 workers’ day. The event was held on Monday at the Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka, the state capital.

While commending the state governor, Chukwuma Soludo, for his efforts at ensuring workers’ welfare, Nawfor implored him to look into the case of retirees in the state, because “they are dying without receiving the gratuities.

He said the NLC appreciated the governor for gradually settling arrears of gratuity and pension in the state as promised in the last May Day, but appeals to him to increase the fund meant for the settlement of gratuity.

“It will encourage the upcoming ones to put in their best to ensure that the organisational goals/objectives are achieved. We appeal to Mr Governor to ensure that this request is upheld.”
