A group of female entrepreneurs under the umbrella of Women in Business (WIB) Fair has distributed food bags to 200 vulnerable and elderly women in the Waru community of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), bringing smiles and hope to many forgotten faces.
The outreach, held under the “Give Her” initiative, is part of WIB Fair’s growing efforts to support underprivileged women, especially the elderly, with meaningful interventions beyond their business ventures.
Ebiere Empere, Coordinator of the WIB Fair, who is also the CEO of Okads Seafood, said the gesture was rooted in the group’s belief that “charity and business can run hand in hand.”
“In WIB Fair, the ‘Give Her’ initiative is a testament to our commitment to making an impact in our communities, and not just about making profit in our different lines of business
“Elderly women, in particular, are often neglected. This is our way of saying we see them, we value them, and we’re committed to uplifting them in any way we can,” Empere said.
According to her, each food bag distributed was valued at ₦10,000 and contained essential staples including one kilogram each of rice, beans, and garri, a sachet of groundnut oil, salt, spaghetti, tomato paste, and seasoning cubes.
The highlight of the event came when the recipients, many of whom were widows or grandmothers struggling to make ends meet, broke into songs and danced in appreciation.
Their joy was palpable as they offered prayers and thanks to the group of women who had reached out to support them.
WIB Fair, known for creating platforms for women entrepreneurs to thrive through networking, training, and market access, says the “Give Her” initiative will be sustained and expanded to more communities across the FCT.
“Our members generously contributed to make this possible,” Empere noted, thanking the women behind the scenes who pooled resources to make the outreach a success.
The Waru community leader also commended the gesture, describing it as timely and deeply impactful, especially in the face of rising food costs and economic hardship in the country.
Empere, with this outreach, WIB Fair is not just building businesses it is building bridges of compassion and hope, one community at a time.
