Why our CSR is focused on children with disabilities – Ashish Misra

Ashish Misra, the managing director of SNF Foods Limited has disclosed that in it’s new Corporate Social responsibility (CSR) initiative, the company will focus on children with disability and those who need support, amongst others.

The initiative called, ‘Doing Better by Doing Good’, has seen SNF Foods Limited partner with the Heart of Gold Hospice Institution, a home catering for abandoned, orphaned and sick children suffering from a vast range of congenital abnormalities.

Speaking on the reason for channeling parts of the company’s resources to this course, Misra said as a socially responsible FMCG company, SNF Foods understand the importance of giving back to our community and supporting those in need.

According to him, Hearts of Gold Hospice, is a well-managed care home for children without support.

He said between 60-64children are living in the care home and most of the children are orphans and also suffering from medical conditions like Down’s syndrome and spectrum disorders.

“The idea is to provide a care package of Activa oil, Whippy Mayo, bread and other food products and cash donation for the children as part of our ‘Doing Better by Doing Good’ initiative.

“SNF Foods believes in supporting and assisting the communities in which we operate. It is our belief that happy communities replete with good nutrition and good opportunities for growth are the model communities and we would like to play our part in building a stronger society.

Speaking during its recent visit to Hearts of Gold Hospice to donate food items and financial support to the children, Misra said the company’s inputs will be used to support Heart of Gold Hospice’s mission of providing high-quality care to the children currently living in the care home, including nutrition which is in tandem with our vision to craft high quality products that people love, to keep them active and healthy in body and spirit.

“We wish the institution continues to grow from strength to strength in the pursuit of its noble mission. We believe that it is our responsibility to make a positive difference in the world and are honoured to be able to support such a worthy cause.

“We look forward to working with Heart of Gold Hospice Institution and making a positive impact in our community. This initiative is an example that we can make a positive difference within our areas and communities by taking continuous small steps in the right direction,” he added.

Amit Gautam, general manager, sales said: “Heart of Gold Hospice does wonderful work with the needy children and we are happy to support their efforts. We are confident that our support is well utilised because the institution is so well managed.”

Laja Adedoyin, founder of Hearts of Gold Children Hospice said she looks after 68 children with different levels of disabilities.

According to Adedoyin, there are some disabilities that can see and some that cannot be seen.

“There are children born with severe deformities. One of the things we do here is to give them palliative care. We make life easier for them, even though we know we cannot do it all. Some of these conditions can be addressed with surgeries, while some we cannot do anything,” she said.

She said support from individuals and organisations such as SNF Foods Ltd have continued to sustain the Hospice.

She commended the SNF team and encouraged other organisations to emulate what they are doing.
