We ‘ll take the war against kidnapping, banditry to door step of criminals in Ondo – Amotekun

The Ondo State Commandant of Amotekun Corps, Adetunji Adeleye, on Tuesday identified porous border, youths unemployment, corruption, political thuggery, and unequal distribution of wealth as the root causes of insecurity in the country.

Adeleye, while delivering a lecture etitled; “Contemporary Security Challenges: Is Amotekun Corps The Way Forward?” to mark this year 2020 Ondo State NUJ Press Week ,said “insecurity is a task that we must all rise up to address. The Amotekun corps is the security of our own and we should all be involved”.

The Amotekun boss explained that the Corps, which has come to stay in the Southwest, therefore, was the solution to the existing security challenges that is currently bedeviling the region.

He noted that the recently launched “Operation Clean Up” of the Amotekun Corps has help in tackling the issues of kidnapping, banditry, fulani and herdsmen clashes in the state.

“The essence of the Operation Clean Up is to take the war to the abode of the criminals rather than embarrassing our state”, he added.

He stated that the corps has been collaborating with other sister security agency in the state to also nib in the bud the rising insecurity problem.

While noting that the security outfit needed supports from various stakeholders, Adeleye said over 100 hundred criminal cases relating to kidnapping and banditry have been tackled by the regional security outfit.

Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, while declaring open the week-long activities, said the escalation in criminality and social decadence in the country had become a big threat to peace, economic and social development and general well-being of the nation.

According to him, the determination of the Southwest Governors to contain criminal acts led to a well throughout broad plan and activities which in part led to the establishment of the Amotekun Security Corps.

Akeredolu who was represented by his Chief of Staff, Olugbenga Ale said, “Amotekun is our home grown response to the escalating and unending incapacity of conventional state security apparatus to totally contain security threats to the lives and properties of our people.

He, therefore, said his administration would continue accord the activities of Amotekun a high priority in order to assist it to succeed in its duties and responsibilities.

In his earlier welcome address, Adetona Aderoboye, the Ondo State NUJ Chairman, said journalists would always be at the forefront of enhanced security architecture in the state.
