Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, has said that his new petroleum refinery has enough petrol in storage to meet all of Nigeria’s needs.

According to The Punch report, Dangote revealed this during a weekend visit of Zambia’s Energy Minister, Makozo Chikote, that the refinery currently stores more than half a billion litres of refined fuel products, worth over 600 billion naira.

“The refinery is producing enough refined products, like petrol, diesel, and kerosene, to meet 100 per cent of Nigeria’s requirements,” Dangote said.

He emphasised that the refinery isn’t just for Nigeria – it’s meant to serve all of Africa, supporting the African Continental Free Trade Area agreement. “We must sustain the African Continental Free Trade Area deal. We are trying to see how we trade with other African countries,” he explained.

The Zambian Minister, who visited with a team of experts to explore possible energy partnerships, was impressed by what he saw.

He explained that Zambia’s own fuel industry is completely run by private companies, and they’re keen to work with Dangote: “We are looking at Dangote coming on board, which would lead to efficient, reliable, quality, and competitive products, and we want these done like yesterday”, he said.
