UNIBEN produces 178 first class graduates, to convoke over 14,000

The authorities of the University of Benin (UNIBEN) has said it would confer first degrees, diplomas and certificates on a total of 14, 254 graduands during its 2020/2021 convocation ceremony.

Lilian Salami, Vice Chancellor of the University, disclosed this to newsmen at a press briefing as part of activities lined up for the institution’s 48th convocation and 53rd Founders’ Day Ceremony in Benin City.

Salami said 178 of the graduands bagged First Class Honours, 4,353 made Second Class Upper Division, 8,607 Second Class Lower, 400 Third Class, 14 Pass, five diploma, 576 unclassified among others.

The vice-chancellor, said the convocation ceremony, alongside the 53rd founder’s day celebration, would commence Thursday.

According to her, the Senate of the University also approved 4,045 graduands for conferment of post-graduate degrees in different courses.

She also added that Honorary degrees would be conferred on seven personalities for their exemplary services to the University and the country.

Salami said four of the honorees are illustrious Alumni of the University.

She listed the honorees to include Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN), former governor of Lagos State and the immediate past minister of Works and Housing; Charles Edosomwan (SAN), and Olukayode Dotun-Olukayode
Others are Osaro Isokpan, Gbenga Olu Komolafe, Paul Enebeli and Betsy Obaseki, the First Lady of Edo State.

The Vice Chancellor said that the honorees would be conferred with Doctor of Laws, Doctor of Business Administration and Doctor of Science,0 respectively.

Salami, who congratulated the graduands for the award of degrees, added that Mike Kwanashie, a former Vice Chancellor of Veritas University, Abuja will deliver the Founders’ Day and Convocation Lecture of the institution.
