Two officers killed as police thwart kidnap attempt in Plateau

The Plateau State Police Command has successfully foiled a kidnap attempt along the Little Rayfield Road in Jos, the Plateau state capital resulting in the arrest of four suspected kidnappers.

However, the incident turned tragic as two officers, Fatoyo Femi and Dafur Dashit, attached to the Force Investigation Department (IRT) in Abuja, lost their lives during an intense exchange of gunfire with the suspects.

In a statement by Alfred Alabo, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the command, made available to Journalists on Wednesday in Jos said the kidnapping attempt occurred in the early hours of Wednesday when a group of armed men attempted to abduct a victim along the busy road.

Alabo explained that the police, who had been tipped off about the crime, swiftly responded to the scene when a fierce gunfight ensued, leading to the eventual capture of four of the suspects.

The PPRO noted that tragically, during the confrontation, two officers who were part of the special duty team in Jos were fatally shot.

“The Plateau State Police Command wishes to inform the general public of the arrest of four (4) suspected kidnappers in the recent foiled kidnapping incident that took place along Little Rayfield Road, Jos.

“However, two (2) of our officers namely; Fatoyo Femi and Inspr Dafur Dashit attached to Force Investigation Department, Abuja (IRT) who are on special duty in Jos loss their lives during the exchange of gunfire with the suspected kidnappers”; the PPRO said.

The police spoke person added that Emmanuel Adesina, the state commissioner of Police expressed deep sorrow over the loss of the officers.

He said the CP commended their bravery and dedication to their duties, adding that their ultimate sacrifice will not be forgotten.

“The Commissioner of Police, Plateau State Command, CP Emmanuel Olugbemiga Adesina, psc appeals for calm in the State as the situation is under control”; the PPRO added.
