The International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) recent AI Preparedness Index (AIPI) report evaluates AI readiness across 174 countries, focusing on digital infrastructure, human capital, technological innovation, and legal frameworks.
Each dimension is assessed through various sub-indicators like digital infrastructure presence, investment in human capital, STEM expertise, R&D ecosystem, and adaptable legal frameworks.

Here are top 10 African countries advancing for AI readiness in 2024
Seychelles
Seychelles leads the African continent in AI preparedness with a score of 0.53. Despite its small size, Seychelles has made significant strides in digital infrastructure, cybersecurity, and education.
Mauritius
Mauritius ranks second in Africa with an AI preparedness score of 0.52. The island nation has a robust ICT sector, which forms the backbone of its AI advancements

South Africa
South Africa, with a score of 0.49, is the third most AI-ready country in Africa. It boasts a well-established tech ecosystem, with leading universities and research institutions driving AI innovation.

Rwanda
