Tinubu makes maiden Northeast trip for army conference

President Bola Tinubu arrived in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno state, for his first official visit to the North-Eastern region since taking office.

He will be attending the Nigerian Army Annual Conference.

Tinubu departed Abuja earlier this morning, leaving the Presidential Wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport around 10:35 AM.

His arrival in Maiduguri is seen as a significant gesture, symbolizing his commitment to addressing the region’s security challenges.

As the special guest of honour at the conference, the President is scheduled to participate in a range of activities, including:

1. Addressing the soldiers of Joint Task Force North East Operation HADIN KAI

2. Touring the ongoing Nigerian Army Reference Hospital in Maiduguri

3. Laying the ceremonial cornerstone for Headquarters 7 Division

These engagements are expected to offer the President firsthand insights into the operational realities of the Nigerian Army and the ongoing fight against insurgency in the Northeast.

The Director of Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, confirmed the President’s participation, highlighting the importance of the conference in “enhancing the operational efficiency and combat readiness of the Nigerian Army.”
