Tinubu flags off African First Ladies summit

Tinubu approves N150,000 grant for each MSMEs clinics participants

President Bola Tinubu on Monday flagged off the summit of African First Ladies in Abuja.

The President also launched the “Organization of African First Ladies for Development (OAFLAD), #WeAreEqual Campaign”, a program focusing on health, education, economic empowerment and gender-based violence, that is already running in about 15 other African countries.

The President while flagging off the event at the State House Conference Center, Abuja on Monday, noted that the focus of the campaign in Nigeria, “Education as a Powerful Tool for Change” is critical for Africa’s development.

Tinubu urged African countries to promote a “society where everyone has the same opportunities, regardless of who they are, because doing that leads to a stronger and more peaceful society for all”.

The launch of the campaign in Nigeria is coming with the planned reintroduction of the Alternative High School for Girls by the First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, an initiative that is expected to offer a second chance to young girls who have dropped out of school to further their education and fulfil their dreams and aspirations.

BusinessDay gathered that the foundation stone of one of the schools was recently laid in Osun State, by the First Lady, with a promise that more such schools are underway across the country.

State governments are supporting the school, the federal government through the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), and other development partners.
