President Bola Tinubu has approved N2 billion in relief support for victims of the 29th March attack on Angwa Rukuba in Jos North LGA of Plateau State, in which at least 28 residents were killed after gunmen opened fire at a popular bar.
The intervention was announced by Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation Mohammed Dorro at a high-level stakeholders’ meeting in Abuja on Wednesday, attended by a 32-man delegation from Plateau State. The meeting, which Tinubu had promised following the attack, was aimed at charting a permanent solution to the recurring killings in the state.
“No protocols, no hindrances, we are here to speak our minds and find a permanent solution to a recurring conflict and chaos,” the president said, urging delegates to return home with open minds and a commitment to peacebuilding.

Governor Caleb Mutfwang, who spoke on behalf of the delegation, welcomed the federal intervention and noted the historic significance of the gathering — the first time all living former governors of Plateau State had met in the same room to deliberate on peace. He pledged that stakeholders would implement agreed resolutions and sustain the momentum, adding that the state intended to “turn conflict into profit” by tackling poverty and exclusion. “Our coming here today shows that there is a renewed spirit on the Plateau,” he said. “We are determined to close all divides of religion and ethnicity.”
The delegation included former governors Simon Lalong, Jonah Jang, Joshua Dariye, and Fidelis Tapgun, as well as APC national chairman Nentawe Yilwatda, traditional rulers, retired security chiefs, religious leaders, and youth representatives.
Da Jacob Gyang Buba, traditional ruler of the Berom community, called for increased military presence, the installation of CCTV surveillance systems across Plateau, and accelerated consideration of state police. He also urged federal support for the return of internally displaced persons to their ancestral homes ahead of the rainy season.
