Tinubu appoints Gbajabiamila Chief of Staff, Akume, SGF

In a move that comes as no surprise to political observers, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has today announced the appointment of Femi Gbajabiamila as Chief of Staff and George Akume as Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF). These crucial appointments were revealed during a high-level meeting with the Progressives Governors Forum (PGF) on Friday, June 2nd 2023.

Gbajabiamila, who currently holds the position of Speaker of the House of Representatives has long been considered a trusted ally of President Tinubu. His appointment as Chief of Staff is seen as a strategic move to solidify their partnership and capitalize on Gbajabiamila’s political acumen and experience who has served in the House of Representatives since 2003.

Former Deputy Governor of Jigawa State, Ibrahim Hadejia will serve as the Deputy Chief of Staff.

Alongside these appointments, former Governor of Benue State, George Akume has been selected to assume the position of Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF).

Akume’s previous role as Minister of Special Duties further bolsters his qualifications for this crucial post. As SGF, he will be responsible for overseeing the administrative functions of the government, ensuring smooth operations and efficient governance.

The appointments were confirmed through an official statement signed by Abiodun Oladunjoye, Director of Communications at the State House, Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The decision to tap into Gbajabiamila’s expertise signifies a strategic move by Tinubu to strengthen his administration and advance key agendas. Furthermore, Akume’s appointment as SGF showcases Tinubu’s commitment to placing seasoned politicians in critical positions in his bid to enhance government efficiency and effectiveness.
