TikTok has stopped supporting its services in the United States since late Saturday and disappeared from Apple and Google app stores ahead of a ban that takes effect on Sunday, according to numerous credible reports.

This shutdown will affect 170 million Americans, who got notifications on the app that said its services will be temporarily unavailable because of a new national security law that takes effect Sunday.
“We regret that a US law banning TikTok will take effect on January 19 and force us to make our services temporarily unavailable,” the notification read. “We’re working to restore our service in the US as soon as possible, and we appreciate your support. Please stay tuned.”
This temporarily ends a saga that started with Donald Trump’s attempt to sell the app in 2020 during his first presidency. In a change of heart, President-elect Donald Trump will likely give TikTok a 90-day reprieve from the ban once he takes office on Monday despite a United States Supreme Court ruling that the app should be banned in the US by Sunday if it is not sold.

“A law banning TikTok has been enacted in the U.S. Unfortunately, that means you can’t use TikTok for now. We are fortunate that President Trump has indicated that he will work with us on a solution to reinstate TikTok once he takes office. Please stay tuned,” the app told users late Saturday night.
