Tijani Musa Isa takes office as ICAN’s 58th president

Tijani Musa Isahas assumed office as the 58th president of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) on Tuesday, May 31, 2022 at the investiture ceremony held at 16, Idowu Taylor Street, Victoria Island, Lagos.

The Jigawa State-born new ICAN president in his acceptance speech at the handover of the leadership baton expressed gratitude to the governing council of the institute, every member of the accounting body for the honour bestowed on him as the 58th president of the esteemed body of accountants in Nigeria.

“Today marks a significant milestone in the accountancy profession as its foremost institute on the African continent, ICAN bestows on me the mantle of leadership as its 58th president.

“I am greatly honoured by your esteemed presence at this unique and seamless transition ceremony specially organised to formally present to me the insignia of office following my unanimous election by the ICAN governing council at a special meeting held on Friday, April 1, 2022.

“It is therefore with humility, great sense of responsibility and a determination to selflessly serve,that I, MallamTijjani Musa Isa,graciously accept my election as the 58th president and flag bearer of the accountancy profession in Nigeria as pioneered and represented by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria” he said.

He described his new position and office as call to service.

“Let me state that this investiture is a clarion call to service and so, the enormity of its responsibility is not lost on me,” he stated.

Tijani Isa promised among other things to preserve the future of the institute and the profession by ensuring that members’ transcendence through continuous engagement with stakeholders is sustained.

Comfort OluEyitayo, the immediate past president of ICAN in her valedictory speech said it was an honour for her to serve the institute for 12 months.

“I feel greatly honoured and privileged to be given this golden opportunity to serve my institute as its flagbearer for the past twelve months,” she said

Eyitayounveiled how she was able to achieve the massive successes within the 12 months period.

“My desire to make ICAN great again through ‘Visible Impact’ gave no sleep to my eyes, nor my eyelids slumber.

“My focus was on the goal and, by the grace of the Almighty God, I can confidently chorus with Julius Caesar that I came, I saw and I conquered. All glory and adoration be to the Almighty God,” she stated.

She assured the new president and her supportive team members of her unalloyed and continued service to the Institute. And with the incoming 58th president of ICAN a more rewarding tenure of office.

BabajideSanwo-Olu, the executive governor of Lagos State who was ably represented by RabiuOlowo, the state commissioner for finance said the state is always interested on who becomes ICAN president because Lagos is the 5th largest economy in Africa and biggest sub-national economy in Nigeria among others.

He applauded the immediate past president of ICAN for her achievements, especially in the areas of entrepreneurship development and wished the incoming president well in his new office.

Muhammad BadaruAbubakar, the executive governor of Jigawa State, who was represented by Umar Namadi, the deputy governor of the state disclosed that the investiture ceremony was of great importance to the people of Jigawa because the new president of ICAN is from the state.

Besides, he explained that the state has produced three ICAN presidents in the history of the institute.

“The president of ICAN today is from our state, and one peculiar thing is that 3 out of the 6 northern presidents of ICAN are from Jigawa and from the same town.

“I do not think there is any state with such a record, so we feel this an honour to us,” he stated.

AdamuAdamu, the minister of education represented by OluwatoyinOgundipe, the vice –chancellor of the University of Lagos acknowledged ICAN for its collaborations with tertiary institutions and support to young ones in universities.

He urged the institute to encourage students to do accountancy and related courses to improve their career and not otherwise.

Innocent Okwuosa, the 1st deputy/vice president in his vote of thanks assured the new president of the support of the entire members of the institute.
