Sule sacks six commissioners in Nasarawa, cites need for fresh ideals

The Nasarawa State Government has announced the removal of six Commissioners from the State Executive Council as part of a cabinet adjustment aimed at strengthening the administration and injecting fresh ideas into governance.

Labaran Magaji, Secretary to the Nasarawa State Government (SSG), disclosed this while briefing journalists shortly after the State Executive Council meeting held in Lafia on Tuesday.

Magaji said the adjustment was necessary to reposition the Government and ensure effective delivery of Governor Abdullahi Sule’s mandate within the remaining period of the administration.

The Commissioners affected are those overseeing the Ministries of Works; Women Affairs; Information; Lands; Science and Technology; and Security and Other Sundry Matters.

According to the SSG, the affected commissioners were not removed because of poor performance, but were asked to step aside as part of efforts to strengthen the system and accommodate new interests.

“There was just a minor adjustment in the cabinet, which saw about six honourable commissioners asked to step aside, though they remain part of the government”, Magaji said.

“The government and the council commended their efficiency and hard work, but in order to give room for strengthening the system, accommodate other interests and rejig the system, new blood will also be injected with the vigour to ensure that all the mandates given to His Excellency, Engineer Abdullahi Sule, are delivered within time”, he noted.

The SSG further explained that the Council also deliberated on ways to maximise the economic opportunities presented by the increasing presence of lithium processing companies in the state.

He recalled that Nasarawa State recently attracted national attention following the commissioning of one of the biggest lithium processing companies in the country by Vice President Kashim Shettima, who represented President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“The discussions in the council today centred on how to enhance the income of Nasarawa State by taking advantage of the lithium processing companies that are in Nasarawa State,” he said.

“Discussion is ongoing, and the conclusion of which will also be made public in due course.”

Magaji added that the commissioners relieved of their portfolios would be considered for other responsibilities, while the names of new appointees would be announced through the appropriate channels.

“These are the commissioners that were actually asked to step aside to be considered for other assignments in due course. The new appointees will be made public through the proper channel,” he stated.

The cabinet adjustment comes as the Sule administration enters the final phase of its tenure, with the government seeking to consolidate ongoing projects and strengthen key sectors, particularly mining and investment development.
