A group of House of Representatives new members-elect working for the emergence of Aliyu-Muktar Betara, the chairman, of the House committee on appropriation, as speaker in the 10th Assembly has flagged off a nationwide tour of the six geopolitical zones.
The delegation led by Ismail Dabo (APC, Bauchi) began the tour from the southeast with a meeting in Enugu to create awareness of their readiness to deliver on their mandate of electing Betara the next speaker.
The new lawmakers-elect drawn from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Labour Party (LP), among others, pledged their support for the Borno legislators.
The leader of the delegation, Dabo, APC member-elect representing Toro federal constituency of Bauchi State, said that members of the group were new members-elect from various political parties.
He said: “We are new members-elect from different political parties and irrespective of our party affiliations; we have resolved to support Muktar Betara Aliyu.
“In furtherance of his campaign, Betara who doubles as chairman, House committee on appropriations, has proved to the world that he is capable of leading the over 300 lawmakers.”

The lawmaker-elect said the new legislators do not want a bully as a leader in the 10th House of Representatives that is why Betara is their anointed candidate, adding that, “we chose to begin awareness from Enugu.”
Speaking further on the zone to zone tour, Dabo said: “The idea is to create more awareness on the man they believe will lead them to pilot the affairs of the House in the next democratic dispensation hence the need for others to join the moving train.
He said the solidarity tour which kicked-off from the south-east region will take the delegation to the southwest and south-south.
The Bauchi representative said the delegation was also working across all the geo-political zones in northern parts of the country where Betara enjoyed unflinching support.
The leader of the delegation disclosed that the group will issue a communiqué at the end of the solidarity tour.
Another member of the group who does not want his name in print, said they have so far gathered all members-elect and they will cover virtually all the states across the country to ensure the emergence of the appropriation chairman as next House speaker.
“The outpour of support is overwhelming and I can tell you that it is a worthwhile venture and a win-win for all of us, irrespective of the political affiliation, tribe or religion.”
