Governor Charles Soludo of Anambra State has urged the South- East Development Commission (SEDC) to prioritise key projects, particularly, a regional railway connecting the five South-East States.
Governor Soludo made the statement during the 4th Meeting of the Anambra State Executive Council (ANSEC), assuring Mark Okoye, the pioneer MD/CEO of SEDC of his Government’s support, emphasising the significant economic benefits of a regional railway project.
Law Mefor, Commissioner for Information in a Post-Exco Press statement on Tuesday, said the move was expected to boost economic growth and development in the region.
According to him, ANSEC also threw its weight behind NAFDAC’s initiative to rid markets of counterfeit and expired drugs.
“The Council applauded Soludo’s visit to the closed Drug Market in Onitsha and urged NAFDAC to expedite inspection and verification, promising support.
“To combat fake drugs, the Council decided to complete the Anambra State Pharmaceutical Hub, also known as the Coordinated Wholesale Drug Centre (CWC), at Oba.

“The 4th ANSEC meeting approved strategic contracts, including the reconstruction and fortification of the perimeter fence at the commissioners’ quarters, Awka, awarded to Aristan Developers Ltd at N57,500,000.
“The Council also approved the construction of 2 NR model gates at General Hospitals, with additional work of landscaping, interlocking, and fencing of Enugwu-Otu Aguleri Hospital Compound, awarded to Daluchukwu & Bros Impex Ltd at N310,718,114.73.
“Additionally, the repainting and renovation of the VIP stand was awarded to KUV Homes & Properties at N107,119,753.69, while the reclamation and control of flood and gully erosion at the Cosmetics Market was awarded to Acode Energy Services Ltd at N188,174,822.19.
“The Government reaffirmed its commitment to combating evil native doctors who promote wealth without work and warned against the promotion of Oke-Ite and similar fetish products,” Mefor noted.
