Senate minority caucus asks Buhari to review security strategy

The Senate minority caucus on Monday asked President Muhammadu Buhari to review the security strategy being used to tackle terrorism and other insecurity because the current one is failing.

The caucus expressed deep sadness over the gruesome killings of over 40 rice farmers in Borno State by the Boko Haram insurgents.

The Senate Minority Leader, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, who spoke on behalf of his colleagues said it was saddening that the harvest season had now been turned to mourning season.

He said, “We are horrified that our people, particularly the farmers who are toiling tirelessly to sustain the nation’s food security have always become the target of the insurgents.

“This is so horrendous and mind-wrenching and of course the unmindful slaughter of our people in such a dastardly manner is becoming way too many.

“It’s embarrassing to the country and calls to question the government’s strategy and capacity to tame the rising wave of insurgency and banditry ravaging a large swath of our dear nation, particularly in the Northern region.”

Abaribe, according to a statement by his Media Adviser, Uchenna Awom, said insecurity in the country had reached a frightening level with the resurgence of Boko Haram, banditry, and kidnapping all over the country.

“It is no longer enough for the presidency to always issue tepid statements by condemning the attacks and daily killing of our citizens, now is the time to take decisive action and review it’s strategy since it seems the current one has failed woefully,” he said.

The caucus, however, commiserated with the government and people of Borno State and prayed to God to console the families of the victims.
