The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has distributed 100 tons of dates to vulnerable families in Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and Kano State as part of its annual humanitarian relief efforts.
The initiative, led by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief), underscores Saudi Arabia’s commitment to supporting those in need while strengthening diplomatic and cultural ties with Nigeria.
Speaking during the distribution, Faisal bin Ibrahim Al-Ghamdi, Saudi Arabia’s Ambassador to Nigeria, reaffirmed the Kingdom’s dedication to humanitarian causes.
He stated that Saudi Arabia remains committed to fostering Islamic solidarity and extending relief efforts to communities in need.
According to Al-Ghamdi, 50 tons of dates were allocated to Abuja, while another 50 tons were sent to Kano.

He emphasised that the gesture aligns with Saudi Arabia’s broader mission to support Muslim communities, alleviate hardship, and promote unity, particularly during significant religious seasons such as Ramadan.
“This initiative represents the Kingdom’s broader mission to uplift Muslim communities, alleviate suffering, and promote unity,” the ambassador said.
He assured that the embassy, working in collaboration with local authorities and humanitarian organisations, would ensure the dates reach the intended beneficiaries across different regions of Nigeria.
Beyond food aid, Al-Ghamdi highlighted Saudi Arabia’s broader commitment to strengthening cooperation with Nigeria across multiple sectors, particularly in humanitarian and Islamic affairs.
He noted that under the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 initiative, Saudi Arabia aims to expand its contributions to global humanitarian efforts, including food security and welfare programs.
The annual distribution of dates by the Saudi government is seen as a symbolic act of goodwill, reinforcing its commitment to supporting communities and fostering stronger diplomatic relations with Nigeria.
