Lagos State governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and minister of transportation, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, currently at Oshodi – site the fatal train accident, which claimed two lives in the early morning of Monday.
The accident occurred at about 8.11 am when a commercial vehicle marked GGE 972 GE with six passengers veered onto the train tracks while crossing the rail at PWD inward Oshodi and subsequently collided with a scheduled commuter train.
The vehicle was then dragged along for a stretch of the journey before the train managed to come to a complete halt.
Responders from the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, raced to the scene and were able to successfully extricate a total of eight passengers. Six with minor injuries were provided with on-site medical care while two males including a 20-year old sustained severe injuries and were taken to LASUTH for further treatment. Two of the passengers subsequently lost their lives.
