Muhammadu Sanusi II, the 16th Emir of Kano, on Friday, urged Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to take firm action against individuals attempting to create unrest and undermine the authority of the Kano State Government.
Speaking during the traditional Sallah homage at the Government House in Kano, the Emir said the government must not appear weak in the face of actions capable of threatening peace and stability in the state.
Sanusi stated that any attempt to ridicule or destabilise the government should be decisively addressed to prevent chaos and uncertainty in Kano.
“If anybody dares your government, show him the power of authority. We cannot continue to be lenient with people trying to undermine the government and throw Kano into confusion,” the Emir said.
He stressed that Islamic teachings support the protection of constituted authority and maintenance of peace, adding that leaders must defend the interests of the people while dealing firmly with those bent on causing disorder.
According to him, Governor Yusuf has demonstrated commitment to the welfare of Kano residents through projects and programmes in agriculture, healthcare, construction and other sectors.
“The government’s achievements in the last two years speak for themselves. As you know, we will always tell you the truth if there are shortcomings, but today I am proud to be associated with this administration because the people can see what it is doing,” he said.
The Emir assured the governor of the support of the Kano Emirate, noting that the success of the administration would translate into collective progress for the state.
“We are with you one hundred per cent. Your success is our success because we belong to the same family and community. If your government succeeds, it is a collective achievement for all of us,” he added.
Sanusi also called on the Federal Government to support ongoing development initiatives in Kano, particularly the proposed light rail project, which he said would boost economic activities in the state.
He noted that members of the business community had already appealed to the Federal Government for intervention and support towards the project’s actualisation.
