Royal Power & Energy Limited has secured a renewable energy project under a programme supported by the World Bank and implemented by the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) to expand access in Nigeria
The company emerged as a successful bidder under the Utility Enabled Projects programme, a national effort aimed at expanding electricity access across Nigeria through renewable energy systems and public-private collaboration.
Under the project, Royal Power & Energy Limited will deploy interconnected mini-grid systems. These systems will work with existing distribution networks to supply electricity to communities and businesses that face limited or unstable power.
The initiative forms part of a wider push to reduce reliance on fossil-fuel-based self-generation and improve access to electricity. It also reflects a shift towards decentralised energy solutions in Nigeria’s power sector.
Speaking on the development, the company’s CEO, ‘Wale Odugbesan said the award marks a step in its mission to address power access challenges.
“Winning this project reflects the growing role of the private sector in solving Nigeria’s energy challenge,” the CEO said. “At Royal Power & Energy, we believe access to reliable electricity is fundamental to economic growth, business productivity, and community development. Through this initiative, we are proud to contribute to building a more resilient and sustainable power ecosystem for Nigeria.”
The CEO added that interconnected systems will support efforts to update power infrastructure and expand economic activity.
Managing Director of the Rural Electrification Agency, Abba Abubakar Aliyu, said the programme is designed to support private developers in delivering electricity solutions across the country.
“The Utility Enabled Projects are a critical component of REA’s strategy to empower capable private sector developers to deliver sustainable electricity solutions at scale,” he said.
Royal Power & Energy said it will work with the agency, distribution companies, and other stakeholders to deliver the project and maintain operations over time.
