Road construction boosts business, reduces insecurity in Bauchi community – Market Chairman

The Chairman of Gajin Duguri Market in Alkaleri Local Government Area of Bauchi State, Malam Umar has said that the construction of Duguri, Gajin Duguri, Yelwan Duguri, Yashi, Dimdima road that links to the Federal Government Road by Governor Bala Mohammed Abdulkadir has boosted business activities and reduced security challenges in the community.

Umar disclosed this to our correspondent during site inspection by the state Commissioner for Works and Transport, Titus Saul Ketkukah.

He said that the road construction attracted customers from Kano, Lagos and other states of the federation to their community to buy their farm produce.

According to the chairman, “At this time, we load 50 trailers with Cassava to be taken to South-South or Western part of the country; we also loaded 20 trailers with sugar cane, and 10 trailers of onions every week.

“We are getting it very easy now to come out with our farm produce to sell to customers within and outside the state.

“In Gajin Duguri, we cultivate Sugar cane, Cassava and vegetables like onions, tomatoes and other vegetables.

“We suffered a lot before taking our farm produce to market but now everything is moving very well.”

Umar also said that the road construction has reduced the issue of arm robbery as robbers used to block road to rob marketers but “we are very happy because there is nothing like that again,” he said.

“Before the road construction, we used to sell our farm produce at very low price because there was no good road for customers to come and buy, but now we are getting good value for our labour,” he said.

The state commissioner for Works and Transport appreciated the contractors for their good job and urged them to maintain the standard.
