No fewer than five persons have been confirmed dead after a commercial bus with registration number DKA 256 XY was involved in a fatal road crash in the ancient town of Ikaram Akoko, Akoko Northwest Local Government area of Ondo State on Sunday afternoon.
While the accident claimed five lives instantly in the 18-seater passenger bus, other occupants sustained various degrees of injuries.
BusinessDay gathered that those who sustained injuries were taken to State Specialist Hospital, Ikare Akoko, for medical attention, while the bodies of the dead victims had been deposited at the hospital’s morgue.

According to an eyewitness, the ill-fated bus’ tyre burst while it was on high speed at a junction leading to Ajowa Akoko and Akunu Akoko.
The source added that men of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Ikare Unit, Police officers and sympathizers were involved in the rescue effort as many people went down in tears and wailing.
Oluropo Alabi, the Commander of FRSC, Ikare Akoko, who confirmed the accident to journalists, however, said he was not in a position to give accurate number of victims, but said the rescue operation was ongoing as of the time of filing this report.
