Refuge Network International (RNI), also known as Refuge Charitable Network Nigeria (RCNN), carried out three community-based initiatives in the Alaguntan community, Ajah, Lagos. The activities focused on healthcare access, environmental sustainability, and sanitation.

The Medical Outreach provided free consultations, diagnostic tests, and health education to community residents. Medical professionals and volunteers worked together to ensure effective service delivery.

“Our goal has always been to bridge the gap between needs and resources for underserved communities,” said Charles Gimoh, Founder of Refuge Network International (RNI). “This initiative is a testament to our commitment to making a difference where it matters most.”
Gimoh emphasised that access to healthcare is a right, not a privilege. “Through our medical outreach, we aimed to ensure that even the most vulnerable can access the care they deserve.”

As part of its focus on environmental sustainability, RNI led a tree-planting exercise in the community. The organisation planted multiple trees to promote ecological balance and improve air quality.

“Planting trees is not just about beautifying the environment; it is about investing in the health and future of our communities,” Gimoh said. “We want to inspire a culture of environmental stewardship that will outlive us.”

In addition, RNI launched an environmental sanitation project to improve hygiene and waste management. Volunteers were divided into teams responsible for awareness creation, debris clearance, waste disposal, and community education.

“Clean environments are fundamental to healthy living,” Gimoh stated. “Our sanitation drive was designed to educate residents on waste management while creating a cleaner and healthier community.”

Approximately 100 volunteers participated in the initiative. Community members expressed appreciation, with one resident saying, “You came at the right time.”
Gimoh acknowledged the efforts of the volunteers. “This success would not have been possible without our dedicated volunteers. Their passion and commitment are at the heart of what we do.”

The Alaguntan project follows RNI’s Yabatech student empowerment programme. The organisation continues to expand its reach across Nigeria.
“This is just the beginning. We are determined to expand our reach and deepen our impact in more communities across Nigeria,” Gimoh said.
