Reps extend public hearing on tax reform bills by three days

Is the regional development commission the new deal?

The House of Representatives has extended public hearing on the proposed tax reform bills to three days to allow for wider and knowledge-based participation in addressing all contentious areas in the Bills.

The lower chamber initially scheduled Wednesday February, 26 for the public hearing, but resolved to dedicate three consecutive plenary days from February 25 to 27 for the hearing, 10 am each day.

Abbas Tajudeen, speaker of the Hosue, who announced this during Wednesday’s plenary explained that on Tuesday. 25 will be dedicated to an overview of the bills and initial stakeholders inputs, and Wednesday would be dedicated to discuss the key provisions and allow for expert input.

“We encourage all members to please participate, be there to observe, and to contribute. We may not have plenary on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday so that we ensure all members of the House are going to fully participate.

“So we encourage all honorable members and stakeholders to actively participate in these sessions to ensure that we achieve a comprehensive understanding of the implications of the tax reform bills. Your contributions are invaluable as we work towards effective tax reforms”, Tajudeen urged.

Thr tax reform bills which President Bola Tinubu transmitted October, 2024 have scaked second reading in the House of Representatives and Senate, but alhas also suffered opposition. The Lower Chamber has resolved to address all contentious areas in the bills during the public hearing before its third reading.
