…Approves installation of 2,000 modular kiosks
Katsina State governor, Dikko Umaru Radda, has secured Executive Council approval for a series of initiatives aimed at transforming the Almajiri education system, strengthening climate resilience and boosting small-scale enterprises across the state.
The approvals were granted during the 9th Regular Meeting of the State Executive Council held at the General Muhammadu Buhari House in Katsina.
Briefing journalists after the meeting, Commissioner for Information, Dr. Bala Salisu Zango, said the decisions reflect the administration’s determination to address critical social and economic challenges through targeted interventions.
One of the key decisions was the approval for the procurement and installation of solar-powered lighting systems in Tsangaya schools located in all 361 wards of the state.
Special Adviser on Power and Energy, Dr. Hafiz Ahmed, said the project would improve learning conditions for Almajiri pupils, especially during evening lessons, while enhancing safety within the schools.
“This initiative will create a more conducive learning environment in Tsangaya schools and support ongoing efforts to modernise and integrate the Almajiri education system,” Ahmed said.
The Council also approved the institutionalisation of Climate Change Budget Tagging across ministries, departments and agencies as well as local government councils.
Ahmed explained that the initiative would ensure climate-related projects and expenditures are properly tracked, monitored and evaluated, adding that the policy would also improve transparency and accountability in public spending while strengthening the state’s response to climate change challenges.
Ahmed said the latest approvals align with Governor Radda’s growing profile in climate governance, recalling his historic appearance at the ChangeNOW 2026 Summit in Paris.
He said as the first Nigerian leader to deliver a keynote speech at the event, Radda showcased Katsina’s climate action strategy and renewable energy investments, including plans to breathe new life into the Lambar Rimi Wind Farm.
In another major development, the Council approved the construction and installation of 2,000 standardised modular kiosks under the Katsina Road Corridor Enterprise Infrastructure Programme.
Director-General of the Katsina State Enterprise Development Agency, Dr. Babangida Ruma, said the project is designed to replace unsafe makeshift roadside structures and provide modern business spaces for nano and micro enterprises.
Ibrahim Kaula Mohammed, Chief Press Secretary to the governor in a statement said the approvals underscore the Radda administration’s strategy of combining social investment, environmental sustainability and enterprise development to drive inclusive growth and improve the livelihoods of residents across the state.
