Pupils, teachers trapped as secondary school building  collapses in Plateau

A two-storey classroom building belonging to Saint Academy secondary school in Jos collapsed on Friday trapping students and teachers who were taking exams at the time.

BusinessDay gathered that the building with both Junior and Senior students collapsed around 11 a.m. at the school in the Busa Buji community of Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State.

When BusinessDay visited the site, emergency responders, including the Road Safety, Red Cross, SEMA, NEMA, Nigerian Police and Army were all on the ground trying to rescue those trapped in the collapsed structure.

Sunday Abdu, the Executive Secretary of Plateau State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) told BusinessDay in Jos that all men are on ground trying to rescue the students.

 

Parents were in tears rushing to know the condition of their children, but from all indications, most of the students and staff lost their lives.

However, the extent of the damage and the number of students trapped is yet to be confirmed.
