Protest erupts in Minna as residents block roads over high cost of living

A protest erupted in Minna, the capital of Niger State, on Monday morning as residents blocked major roads in the metropolis over the high cost of living in the country.

The protesters, including women and youths, were heard chanting anti-government songs while security agents looked on.

The demonstrators said the rising cost of living, particularly food items, and the lackadaisical attitude of the government to address the issue forced them to block major roads to grab the attention of the authorities.

While addressing the protesters, Yakubu Garba, the deputy governor of Niger, said the government is aware of the situation and working towards reducing the cost of living and mitigating the effects of the petrol subsidy removal.
