President Tinubu to commission Kia hybrid, CNG vehicle facility in Abuja

President Bola Tinubu will on Friday, May 31, commission the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) Kia Portland facility for assembling hybrid and compressed natural gas (CNG) vehicles in Utako, Abuja towards advancing automotive technology and sustainability.

The facility is expected to become a hub for Kia hybrid and CNG conversion, filling, reverse engineering, and training services.

The landmark event will signify a major milestone in supporting the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda as the initiative highlights dedication to sustainable energy alternatives and a clean energy ecosystem.

In a move to boost local capacity in CNG technology, the new centre is equipped with cutting-edge technology and staffed by highly trained professionals.

It will offer comprehensive training programmes for technicians, engineers, and other stakeholders, fostering the domestication of CNG expertise and promoting green energy solutions across the nation.

Jacky Hathiramani, managing director of Dana Motors, said the development is a groundbreaking moment for Nigeria’s energy and automotive sectors.

He said Kia is dedicated to providing Nigerians with innovative, eco-friendly, and cost-effective automotive solutions.

“Recognising the transformative potential of CNG vehicles in public transportation, we aim to improve the overall quality of life for Nigerians.

“From CNG generators to the conversion centre, electric vehicle charging system, auto conversion, and the training academy, this facility embodies a holistic approach to alternative energy solutions,” he said.

According to Hathiramani, the initiative is poised to substantially contribute to cleaner air, a healthier environment, and a commitment to sustainable innovation while fostering the growth of indigenous technological and manufacturing capabilities.

“Dana Motors has been at the forefront of providing innovative automotive solutions to the Nigerian market since its inception. Since we started assembly operations in 2014, where we have an installed capacity of 18,000 units annually, our commitment to local content and job creation has been unwavering. Together, we strive for excellence in providing top-notch products and services to our customers,” Hathiramani said.

Hathiramani said it transcends conventional collaboration; it’s about reshaping the automotive industry and driving the adoption of cleaner technologies.
