Police kill kidnappers of Odumosu’s wife, recover N10m ransom

Police operatives in Ogun State have neutralised two kidnappers involved in the abduction of wife of Hakeem Odumosu, retired Assistant Inspector-General of Police.

The operation also led to the recovery of N10 million ransom and several firearms.

In a statement issued on Thursday by Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer, Force Headquarters, Abuja, details of the response were disclosed.

According to the statement, Odumosu was abducted on January 16, 2025, around 9:45 PM outside her residence in Arepo, Ogun State.

“Four armed assailants intercepted her Lexus Jeep and whisked her away, prompting the Ogun State anti-kidnapping unit to launch an immediate investigation.

“Relying on technical intelligence from Force Headquarters, police operatives conducted extensive surveillance of the creeks surrounding Arepo, gathering vital information to locate the kidnappers.

“Their efforts culminated in a high-risk operation on January 23, 2025, at around 6:45 AM in a swampy area of Ikorodu”, the statement reads.

It also noted that upon arriving at the kidnappers’ hideout, officers were met with gunfire.

It also disclosed that while two of the gunmen were neutralized, four others fled, abandoning their weapons and other items.

“Odumosu was rescued unharmed during the operation and is currently undergoing precautionary medical evaluation. She has since been reunited with her family.

“Items recovered from the scene included four AK-47 rifles, three locally made single-barrel rifles, various rounds of ammunition, and N10 million in ransom money previously demanded by the kidnappers”, he added.

Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Inspector-General of Police, commended Lanre Ogunlowo, Ogun State Commissioner of Police and his team for their gallant efforts in ensuring the victim’s safe rescue.

“This operation underscores the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to combating kidnapping and violent crimes. We remain resolute in providing safety and security to all citizens,” the IGP stated.
