Following series of complaints of kidnapping at Irete and other Communities in Owerri West Local Government Area in Imo State, the Operatives of the Imo State Police Command have arrested four suspected kidnappers, having combed the forest within the Community.

The operation, the Police said was a part of the ongoing efforts to rid Imo State of criminal elements that had been responsible for the upsurge in abduction, kidnapping and other violent crimes in this area.

Elaborating on how it happened, Aboki Danjuma, Commissioner of Police in Imo State, said the Police, acted on a credible intelligence, and stormed the forest in Irete, which is the hideout of criminals and apprehended four suspects.

They suspects included Sulieman Ahmed 26 years, Mohammed Salisu 31 years, and Gambo Jefta 26 years, all from Jigawa State, and Gabriel Ogbuzuru from Ebonyi State.

During the search on the suspects and their hideouts, three fabricated short guns with six rounds of live cartridges, and three matchets were recovered, the Police Commissioner said, adding that “the suspects are currently in custody and will face prosecution.”

The Commissioner of Police said the Police would be intensifying security measures, including confidence-building patrols and collaboration with local vigilance groups to enhance peace and security in the areas and in the State at large.

He assured the Public of the Command’s commitment to dismantling all criminal networks and maintaining a safer Imo State, calling on the Public to remain vigilant and law-abiding as security operations continue across the State.
