Pensioners to get N32,000 increase once 2025 budget released – PTAD

Pensioners to get N32,000 increase once 2025 budget released – PTAD

The Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD) has reaffirmed its commitment to implementing the recently approved N32,000 pension increment for pensioners under the Defined Benefit Scheme (DBS) as soon as the 2025 budgetary provisions are released.

This assurance was given by Tolulope Odunaiya, the executive secretary, of PTAD in a statement signed by Olugbenga Ajayi, head of corporate communications. She clarified that the pension payments for January 2025 did not include the N32,000 increment because the necessary funds have not yet been released.

Odunaiya emphasised that PTAD is actively working with relevant government agencies to ensure the prompt implementation of the increment and the payment of arrears once funds become available.

She highlighted that, through strategic funds management, PTAD had previously paid four months’ arrears (August–November 2024) to Civil Service Pension Department (CSPD) pensioners and five months’ arrears (August–December 2024) to pensioners in the Customs, Immigration, and Prisons Pension Department (CIPPD), the Police Pension Department (PPD), and the university sector of the Parastatals Pension Department (PaPD).

“PTAD had paid 4 months arrears (August-November 2024) to Civil Service Pension Department (CSPD) pensioners and 5 months arrears (August-December 2024) to pensioners of Customs Immigration and Prison Pension Department (CIPPD), Police Pension Department (PPD), and the university sector of Parastatals Pension Department (PaPD) through strategic funds management,”

Furthermore, Odunaiya noted that PTAD had already cleared the 20% and 28% pension increment arrears for all eligible pensioners. She assured retirees that the Directorate remains committed to prioritizing their welfare and ensuring timely payments.

Speaking at the National Executive Meeting of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP) in December, Odunaiya reiterated that PTAD is finalizing arrangements to pay accrued arrears resulting from the N32,000 increment.

She disclosed that the implementation of this increment would raise PTAD’s monthly payroll to N5.3 billion and its annual payroll to N63.6 billion. She reassured pensioners that all outstanding arrears linked to the new pension increase would be cleared as soon as the necessary funds are allocated.

Odunaiya also revealed that PTAD had already settled eight months’ arrears from the previous 20% and 28% pension increases for pensioners under the Police Pension Department and the Customs, Immigration, and Prisons Pension Departments. She added that outstanding arrears for pensioners under the Parastatals Pension Department are currently being processed and are expected to be paid before the end of the month.

Similarly, she confirmed that five months of arrears for eligible university sector pensioners are being processed for disbursement.

PTAD urged pensioners to remain patient, assuring them that their entitlements remain a priority and will be fully disbursed as soon as the necessary budgetary allocations are made.
