We’re not participating in Saturday’s Ondo LG poll — PDP

Farida Umar, an aspirant for the position of National Ex-Officio from the North Central Zone of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has expressed her unwavering confidence that the party will bounce back stronger in 2027.

Speaking to journalists on Wednesday in Abuja and monitored by BusinessDay in Jos, she made it clear that the PDP is poised not only to recover but to also take over power from the underperforming All Progressives Congress (APC) government.

Umar,  who hails from Nasarawa State, emphasized that the party’s resurgence is inevitable. “The PDP will not only bounce back, but we will also take over power from an APC government that has failed to meet the expectations of the Nigerian people,” she stated.

Drawing from her extensive experience within the PDP, Farida Umar expressed confidence in the party’s recovery and success in the 2027 elections. “I have been a dedicated party member and leader for many years, and I have full faith that the PDP will succeed in the upcoming elections,” she affirmed.

Her track record includes serving in multiple leadership roles at both the state and national levels, earning her respect and trust among party members.

On her aspiration for the National Ex-Officio position, she highlighted her commitment to the PDP’s growth ahead of the 2027 elections. “If I am elected as the National Ex-Officio, I will dedicate myself to the development of the party. With my experience and proven leadership, I am confident I can make a significant impact in strengthening the PDP”; she pledged.

She said her leadership experience is extensive. Having served as the Director-General of PDP Support Groups across all 36 states, a member of the National Women Campaign Council in 2023, and the Convener and Director-General of the Aspiration Grassroots Mobilization Alliance (AGMA). These roles she said have equipped her with the skills necessary to drive the party’s success in the coming election cycle. “These experiences have prepared me for this role,” she said, expressing her readiness to serve the party and the nation.

Addressing the need for unity within the party, Umar emphasized the importance of a transparent and inclusive Congress. “This is a crucial time for the PDP to ensure the right leaders emerge,” she said. “We must lay a solid foundation to take over power from the APC, whose governance has disappointed the masses.” She further stressed that Nigeria still looks to the PDP to steer the country in the right direction.

Finally, she urged PDP supporters to stand firm in preventing the APC from establishing a one-party system in Nigeria. “Under the PDP, Nigerians didn’t suffer as they do today. We must change the leadership to restore hope and progress,” she concluded.
