The death of a passenger on board Delta Airlines Atlanta-Lagos flight to Lagos and thunderstorm has forced the airline to divert flight to Lome.

The incident which happened on Sunday, April 21, about three hours from landing in Lagos after a customer onboard experienced a medical situation.

BusinessDay learnt that crew and medical doctors onboard attempted aid but were unable to resuscitate the passenger.

“Our thoughts are with the family during this difficult time.The decision was made to continue to Lagos but the aircraft was diverted to Lome due to thunderstorms in the area,” Delta said in a statement.

“The flight took an additional delay in Lome due to refueling and weather.

The flight landed safely in Lagos approximately eight and half hours after scheduled time.”

The aircraft type, A330-200 has 215 passengers onboard.

The airline also stated that all customers have received compensation.
