Two newly acquired surveillance aircraft have arrived in Ibadan, the Oyo State Government announced, fulfilling a commitment to deliver the assets before the end of July.
The deployment is designed to bolster security architecture across the state. The assets will provide crucial aerial support to security formations, including the Amotekun Corps, to track criminal networks and accelerate operational response times.
Strengthening intelligence and aerial capabilities
Commissioner for Information Dotun Oyelade noted that the arrival marks a vital milestone in enhancing the state’s security framework through advanced intelligence gathering and aerial monitoring.
The state administration initially announced the procurement of the dual surveillance aircraft on July 8, 2025, as part of a proactive strategy to address evolving security threats. Governor Seyi Makinde subsequently confirmed on July 18, 2026, that the airframes had touched down in Nigeria for final reassembly at the Nigerian Air Force hangar in Lagos.
Fulfilling security commitments
Authorities had indicated nearly a week prior that the assets would reach the state before July concluded, a milestone now officially realized.
Governor Makinde was personally present at the airport to receive the delivery.
