Oyo NDLEA arrests 201 suspects, seizes 3703.581kg of cannabis in 2019

Not less than 201 suspects were arrested in Oyo State by the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency, (NDLEA), for drug related offences in 2019.

Specifically, 71 out of the suspects charged to court had been convicted, and given sentences to different jail terms ranging from 6 months to 15years.

Okuwobi Mutiat, spokesperson of Oyo NDLEA in a statement , said the command  also seized 3703.581kg of cannabis sativa with some other substances of abuse.
In the statement signed by Okuwobi revealed that it uncovered a secret notorious skushi ( a derivative pot pourri of illicit and controlled drugs) factory in Ibadan. the state capital which led to arrest of 291 litres of skushi.

She added that the command have no fewer than 17 persons undergoing counselling during the year, while 10 have been rehabilitated and are doing well in the society.

According to the statement, the anti drug agency also gave brief drug counselling/ intervention to 143 persons in the year under review. Our enlightenment campaigns against drug abuse and trafficking in the state is yielding positive results as we reached out to all and sundry, ranging from primary school, secondary school, tertiary institutions, private organizations, government establishments.

“During the year under review, the command destroyed over 40 hectares of cannabis farm land in Aba-Tade in Oluyole Local Government Area of the state, 0.284 hectares of cannabis farm land in Igangan, Ibarapa North LGA in the state”.

The new State Commander, Josephine Ruth Obi however advised the public to always report any suspicious movements to the authorities concerned to enable them rid the society of criminal activities.
