Oyo inaugurates rural water sanitation agency board

Oyo State government has inaugurated the board of Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (RUWASSA) to further strengthen the works of the agency towards making water available for people rural and urban communities.

Addressing members of the board, Najeem Omirinde, chairman of OYORUWASSA, said the agency had suffered neglect from successive administrations which led to most of its equipment becoming obsolete.

He said the present administration has revamped the working of the agency with the recent purchase of a rig and repair of the existing ones.

“With the present administration’s support, steps at transforming the agency have commenced in earnest in respect of approval of repair of old drilling rigs and compressor, purchase of new drilling rigs, ready for commissioning by the state governor.

“We have had the approval of a bank facility to the tune of N800 million which would be counterpart funding to get listed and secure a grant of N2.9 billion from the Federal Ministry of Water Resources, Abuja, partnership with several nongovernmental organizations like the Water-aid for provision of handwashing facilities, WASH Clean Nigeria Campaign and others.
