…Marks 2026 African Anti-Corruption Day
The Oyo State Anti-Corruption Agency (OYACA) has intensified its public sensitisation campaign against corrupt practices in the State.
Folasade Ajibade, the Executive Secretary of the Agency, made this known over the weekend during the commemoration of the 2026 African Anti-Corruption Day, held at the premises of the Agency, Ibadan.
Speaking on the theme, “Scaling-Up the Promotion of Integrity and Anti-Corruption Actions Across Africa,” for this year’s celebration, Ajibade observed that corruption continues to pose a major challenge to sustainable development, economic growth, democratic governance, and social justice across the African continent.
She explained that the theme for this year’s celebration is to maintain and sustain the foundation integrity of ethical leadership, transparency, accountability and the rule of law.
Ajibade maintained that integrity, transparency, and accountability are essential pillars for sustainable development and good governance.
The Agency, she pointed out, had recorded significant milestones in the enforcement of ethical standards, including securing judgement against erring Civil Servants in Oyo State.
She commended the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Governor Seyi Makinde, for his unwavering commitment to promoting transparency, accountability and good governance in the state.
John Akintayo, Professor and the Guest Lecturer and Dean of the Faculty of Law, University of Ibadan, called for stronger institutional frameworks and collective responsibility in the fight against corruption.
While stressing that effective anti-corruption efforts require the active participation of government institutions, the private sector, civil society, and citizens, he said that integrity must be embraced by individuals and institutions alike to achieve meaningful and lasting progress.
The commemoration reaffirmed OYACA’s commitment to sustaining advocacy, public enlightenment, and institutional reforms aimed at entrenching accountability and promoting a corruption-free Oyo State.
The event had in attendance Wasiu Alimi, the Agency Director of Administration and Supplies, Tajudeen Azeez, Director of Finance and Accounts, and Eto-Abasi Olayanju, the Chief Legal Officer, among others.
