Over 200 travellers from high risk states quarantined-

travellers

The Nasarawa State government says it has quarantined over 200 people coming into the state from high risk states with novel coronavirus pandemic.

Members of the state’s COVID-19 Taskforce stated this while briefing newsmen on Tuesday in Lafia on the update of measures taken to contain the spread of the virus in the state.

Speaking during the briefing, Abdulkarim Kana, the state’s Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice said that over 200 people from high risk states were intercepted and quarantined in the last three weeks during the partial lockdown.

The Justice Commissioner said that based on the directive by Governor Abdullahi Sule, travellers from states with a lot of confirmed cases were intercepted and quarantined at the Isa Mustapha Agwai Polytechnic, Lafia.

“Samples from some of them were taken for testing and the results turnout negative.

“Those whose results turnout negative has been released already and we are still awaiting some results,” he added.

On his parts, Bola Longe, Commissioner of Police in the state who spoke on behalf of the security agencies, said over 400 persons were arrested and prosecuted for violating the lockdown order by the government within the period under review.

He added that security operatives would ensure that the directive by the federal government on  interstate travel was enforce and only essential workers are allowed.

He, therefore, warned that residents should adhere strictly to government’s directives on lockdown and restriction of movement in their best interest as the security agencies would arrest anyone caught violating them.

On his part, Dogo Shammah, Commissioner of Information, Culture and Tourism, assured that the government would rollout more palliatives to cushion the effects of the lockdown.

He added that the government had received support of 40 trucks of rice, sugar and maize from private donors and would soon distribute them to the people.

Shammah also disclosed that the government would address the press three times every week to inform them of developments on COVID-19 as they unfold.

Governor Abdullahi Sule had earlier announced that the state had recorded its first confirmed case of COVID-19 of a lady who traveled to Kano from Kokona Local Government Area of the state.
