Traditional rulers from Osun West Senatorial District have commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving the reconstruction of the 90.9-kilometre Osogbo-Iwo-Ibadan Road, describing the project as a major intervention that will boost economic and social activities across the South-West.

The monarchs also praised Adegboyega Oyetola, the minister of Marine and Blue Economy, for facilitating the approval of the project.

The commendation was conveyed in a letter dated May 27, 2026, and addressed to the President. The letter, signed by traditional rulers across the senatorial district and led by the Oluwo of Iwo, Abdurasheed Adewale Akanbi, was presented to Oyetola at his residence in Iragbiji, Osun State, on Thursday for onward delivery to Tinubu.

The royal fathers recalled that Oyetola had pledged to facilitate the reconstruction of the road while representing the President at the coronation of the 41st Owa Obokun of Ijesaland, Adesuyi Clement Haastrup, on May 23, 2025.

In the letter, the monarchs described the approval of the road project as evidence of the administration’s commitment to infrastructure development and economic growth.

“This monumental intervention stands as a bold testament to your administration’s unwavering commitment to infrastructural renewal, economic revitalisation and national integration,” the monarchs said.

They noted that the road serves as a key economic corridor linking Osun and Oyo states and had become a source of hardship for commuters, traders, farmers, students and other road users due to its deteriorating condition.

“Your timely approval of this strategic project has therefore rekindled hope in the hearts of our people and further reinforced public confidence in your Renewed Hope Agenda,” they stated.

The monarchs added that the project would improve transportation, stimulate commerce, enhance security and create new opportunities for communities along the route.

“We are particularly delighted that this laudable development will not only ease transportation and improve inter-state commerce, but will also stimulate socio-economic growth, enhance security and open up rural communities within the axis to greater opportunities,” the letter read.

According to the traditional rulers, the reconstruction would be remembered as one of the landmark infrastructure projects of the Tinubu administration in the South-West.

“The people of Osun West regard this gesture as a demonstration of responsive and inclusive governance. We equally commend Your Excellency for prioritising infrastructure that directly impacts the well-being of the people,” they said.

“This remarkable project will undoubtedly boost economic activities, facilitate easier movement of goods and services, reduce travel time and strengthen commercial and social interactions among communities within the South-West region. It is a legacy intervention that will continue to benefit present and future generations.”

Among those who signed the letter were the Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdurasheed Adewale Akanbi; the Akire of Ikire-Ile, Oba Azeez Olatunbosun Bamiji; the Olu of Ile-Ogbo, Oba Abeeblahi Adetoyese Agbajelola; the Olupo of Oluponna, Oba Rafiu Oyekanmi Mosobalaje; and the Oonifin of Ikonifin, Oba Solomon Ojo Oyewo, among others.
