Piqued by the upsurge of ghost workers on the pay row of government in Benue State, Governor Samuel Ortom has pledged to do everything humanly possible to block financial leakages in the civil service for faster development.
Ortom who gave the assurance at the Benue State liaison office Abuja during his official visit stated that efforts were being stepped up to eliminate all ghost workers in the state. He added that the money would be used to execute projects that have direct bearing on the lives of the people.
The governor assured that a new approach to issues would be adopted by the present administration where the yearnings and aspirations of the people would be guaranteed.
He directed the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development to evaluate the decayed structure with the view to giving it a befitting facelift.
Meanwhile, as part of its corporate social responsibility in contributing its quota to the development of the society, First Bank Plc Monday denoted assorted relief materials to the Abagana Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp in Guma Local Government Area of Benue State to ameliorate the sufferings of the people. Guma is where the governor hails from.
Making the donation at the camp, the manager of the bank, Makurdi branch, Jacob Tyaegher, explained that the gesture is to compliment Benue government’s efforts to cushion the hardship being experienced by the displaced persons.
The manager urged public-spirited individuals, corporate organizations, and others to donate generously to persons in IDPs for their up keep. He maintained that the bank would continue to extend its hand of fellowship to others with similar conditions. Items donated include bags of beans, vegetable oil, bags of rice, salt, soap and clothing.
First Bank made similar donations to some of the orphanage homes in Makurdi including the one in North Bank for the up keep of orphans, among others.
