Rotimi Akeredolu, the Ondo State Governor, is dead. According to reports, he died of leukemia on Wednesday in Lagos. He was 67 years old.

After a three-month medical leave in Germany, the ill governor returned to Nigeria in September. He hasn’t taken a leave of absence since President Bola Tinubu instructed him to transfer control to his deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa.

Acting Governor Aiyedatiwa, his deputy has been filling in.

When Akeredolu returned to Nigeria in September, he attempted to govern Oyo State from Ibadan, which infuriated the masses.

BusinessDay reported earlier this month that the Ondo State Governor would commence another medical leave starting Wednesday, December 13, 2023, as a follow-up to his medical treatment.
