Olashore students show unique skills in drone technology, win competition

Beyond borders: Securing Nigeria’s future with drone technology and citizen engagement

Olashore International School, a private co-educational boarding secondary school in Iloko-Ijesha, Osun State, has emerged as the winner of the 2023 Drone Soccer Competition held in Lagos.

The competition, organised by the Global Air Drone Academy (GADA), a non-profit organisation headquartered in Baltimore, Maryland, USA, seeks to kindle an interest in STEM subjects among participants, fostering critical thinking, problem-solving, teamwork, and creativity skills.

The African version of the competition is known as the African Drone Soccer Competition (ADSC) aims to provide students with a dynamic platform to delve into the realms of robotics, drone technology, and soccer, encouraging a passion for STEM fields and fostering essential life skills by infusing the thrill of soccer with the complexities of drone operation.

Expressing his excitement, Abimbola Olashore, board chairman of Olashore International School, said the achievement is a noteworthy milestone in the school’s journey towards excellence and also an affirmation of the school’s efforts in promoting international awareness and understanding.

On his part, Will Stevens, US Consul General, commended Team Olashore for their remarkable performance, highlighting their exceptional skills in drone technology and soccer.

The talented Olashore team including; David Saleh, Gbolade Adedinsewo, Chiamaka Odor, Emmanuella Akhabue, Oritsemisan Aroeye, Ebimobiere Smooth, Olaoluwa Ajayi, Ethan Obuzor, had their victory witnessed by supportive parents and other members of the school.
