Ogun approves Nigeria-Benin Republic link road, 11 others for reconstruction

As part of effort aimed at improving ease of doing business and smooth movement of people and goods within and outside the state, Ogun State Government on Friday said it had approved the reconstruction of Nigeria and Republic of Benin link road and 11 other roads which cover 43.61km in all the three Senatorial districts of the State.

Speaking at a press conference jointly addressed in Abeokuta on Friday, by Ade Akinsanya, the Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure and Waheed Odusile, Commissioner for Information and Strategy, respectively, said that the roads reconstruction became imperative going by their socio-economic importance to the State.

Akinsanya said that the governor gave the approval for the roads reconstruction at the State Executive Council (SEC) meeting held on Thursday where there was an agreement between the government and contractors that the roads would be completed between six and nine months duration.

“Yesterday (Thursday), the Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, approved the reconstruction of 12 roads. Some of these roads were already on our table. The roads will serve as links and alternative roads to reduce traffic congestion on major roads.

“They were roads picked by people of the state and the governor gave an aggressive schedule that the roads be completed between six and nine months. We still have about 40 roads to go. Most of these roads, as mandated by the exco, will be finished between six and nine months”, the Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure said.

Also, Waheed Odusile, Commissioner for Information and Strategy, noted that the reconstruction of roads, especially the link road between the Nigeria and Republic of Benin located at Ilashe-Koko-Alari axis of Idi-Iroko area of Ipokia local government of the state, would help in facilitating not only local trade but also an international trade and business to better the lots of people in the State and Nigeria at large.
