…as NDC reveals Chris Iyovwave as winner of guber primary in Delta

Ovie Omo-Agege, former Deputy Senate President of Nigeria and Governorship Candidate of the APC in the 2023 general elections, has hit back at Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, saying reason the governor dumped the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in April last year to the APC was to avoid defeat in a direct contest with him in the 2027 Governorship in the state.

Omo-Agege, who recently defected from the APC to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) where he had won the ticket to contest for the Delta Senatorial District seat in 2027 after losing to Ede Dafinone in the APC Delta Central Senatorial District Primaries which the senator claimed was rigged against him.

Responding to Oborevwori’s claim in a television programme that he (Omo-Agege) is no threat in Delta politics, the former deputy speaker said he had nurtured APC into a formidable party that actually won the 2023 Gubernatorial election in the State.

“In the 2023 elections that I led, the APC won two Senate seats in Delta State out of three. From those two, Delta Central Senatorial District where Gov. Sheriff Oborevwori and I are from, my party, led by me, won in a head-to-head contest between the governor and me.

“I defeated the governor by a margin of 15,000 votes in the only Senate seat contested in Delta Central. I won it for my party by defeating the governor’s candidate with my candidate, Dafinone. As I moved around the state reorganising for the 2027 elections, during my thank-you tour, there was a mass defection of people from the PDP to the APC because they had no faith in Gov. Sheriff Oborevwori.

“I did not concede defeat to Oborevwori because I won the 2023 governorship election. If Oborevwori was sure I was no threat, he would have stayed in the PDP to face me”, Omo-Agege said.

Meanwhile, Seriake Dickson, South-South leader of the NDC, has revealed that the party at the Delta Stakeholders’ meeting, successfully resolved and settled a number of post-primary election issues, thereby laying a solid foundation for the take-off of the party’s election activities and the upcoming campaigns in Delta State and across the South-South region.

Dickson, in a letter made available to the media, particularly commended all the Delta State Governorship aspirants who have resolved to work together with the candidate who emerged from the process, in the person of Deacon Chris Iyovwaye.

According to him, Iyovwave is an accomplished businessman with the right exposure, experience, and educational background. There is no doubt that he possesses the qualities required to serve the people of Delta State effectively as governor, be added.

By the NDC arrangement, Iyovwave would contest against Oborevwori of the APC in the Governorship election during the next year’s (2027) general election.
