The Obafemi Awolowo University Economics Class of 2005, known as “The Vibes”, has honoured veteran journalist and publisher Dele Momodu with a Special Award for his service to knowledge and culture in Nigeria.
The award was presented in recognition of his contributions to public discourse, media development and the promotion of African culture over the years. Members of the class said his work reflects the values of Obafemi Awolowo University’s motto, “For Learning and Culture”.
According to the group, Aare Momodu’s career in journalism and publishing has helped shape conversations around governance, education, leadership and cultural identity across Africa. They noted that his engagement with young people and his support for intellectual development continue to influence many Nigerians within and outside the media industry.
The recognition received the backing of the Executive Committee of the OAU Economics Class of 2005 and the Vice Chancellor of Obafemi Awolowo University, showing the importance attached to the honour by the institution and its alumni community.
The award was presented by Abiola Adelana, Vice President of the OAU Economics Class of 2005 (“The Vibes”), and Kolawole Lawal, Financial Secretary of the group. They said the honour was aimed at celebrating individuals whose work supports learning, culture and national development.
Members of the class added that the award also serves as an encouragement to younger Nigerians to pursue service, knowledge and cultural preservation in their chosen fields.
