The National Working Committee (NWC) of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has denounced the purported suspension of Hashimu Dungurawa, the party’s Kano State Chairman, describing the action as illegal, unconstitutional, and of no effect.
In a statement issued from the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja on December 30, 2025, seen by BusinessDay on Wednesday, the NNPP leadership said the move was “misplaced, undemocratic, null and void,” stressing that it contravenes the provisions of the party’s constitution.
The NWC explained that the alleged suspension was announced by some executive members of the party in Gargari Ward, Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area of Kano State, whom it described as “questionable.”
According to the statement which was signed by Bamofin Ladipo Johnson, national secretary of the party, the ward executives lack the authority to suspend a state chairman, making their action a gross act of anti-party conduct.
“The purported suspension of Alhaji Hashimu Dungurawa is a clear violation of the extant provisions of the NNPP constitution and therefore has no legal or political standing,” the statement said.
The party’s national leadership also commended Dungurawa’s leadership, describing him as a conscientious, hardworking, and dutiful chairman whose performance has significantly contributed to the growth and stability of the NNPP in Kano State.
Johnson, who reaffirmed the NWC’s support for Dungurawa, urged party members to abide by constitutional procedures in resolving internal disputes.
